1) Fair-weather friend èرفیق نیمه راه
Someone who is your friend only when things are going well for you.
e.g.: I really thought she would be have to help me, but she is just a fair-weather friend.
2) Pen-friend èدوست مکاتبه ای
A person that you make friends with/by writing letters, often somebody you have never met.
e.g.: In your first letter to a pen-friend you will want to give a lively picture of yourself, the main points about yourself and your life which can be elaborated on.
3) False-friend è دوست کاذب، نارفیق
a) A person who seems to be your friend but who is not loyal and cannot be trusted.
e.g.: I can not rely on Mina as a reliable friend because she is a false-friend.
b) A word in a foreign language that looks similar to a word in your own language, but has a different meaning.
e.g.: The English word ‘sensible’ and the French word ‘sensible’ are false-friends.
4) Bosom friend è دوست صمیمی، همدم
A friend that you know very well and like very much indeed.
e.g.: I really like Marry. She is my bosom friend.
5) School friend èدوست دوران مدرسه
A friend who attends or attended the same school as you.
e.g.: She met up with some of her old school friends.
6) Girlfriend èدوست دختر
A girl that a boy is having a romantic relationship with.
e.g.: He had lunch with his girlfriend.
7) Friend in /at court èدوست منتفذ
One who has ability and disposition to help another by his influence in high quarter.
e.g.: When the Lord was to bring his people into Egypt He provided so as they should have a friend at court before they come.
8) Long-term friend è دوست قدیمی
Somebody who’s your friend for a long time.
e.g.: Sarah has been my friend since I was 10. She’s my long-term friend.
9) Make friends againè آشتی کردن
e.g.: I had broken my friend relationship for at least 5 years, but I decided to make friend again with her.
10) Have friends in high places è پارتی داشتن
To know important people who can help you.
e.g.: ‘ how did he get promoted so quickly?’
‘Oh, he had friends in high places’.
11) A friend in need, is a friend indeed è
دوست آن باشد که گیرد دست دوست در پریشان حالی و درماندگی
A friend who gives you help in the time of trouble is a true friend.
e.g.: I’ll always be grateful to Karin for lending me the money; a friend in need is a friend indeed.

چون دوستان نوگیری ، پشت به دوستان کهن مکن.
Old friends are more reliable and trustworthy than new friends.

آیلتس چیست؟
آزمون آیلتس (IELTS= International English Language Testing System) جهت سنجش میزان آمادگی داوطلبان برای ادامه تحصیل، فراگیـری مهارتهـای تخصصـی و یـا کار و اقامـت در کشـورهـای انگلیسی زبان طراحی شـده است. ایـن آزمون مشترکاً تـوسط دانشگاه کمبریج، کنسول بریتانیـا (British Council) و مرکز آیلتس استرالیا در بیش از 500 مرکز در 120 کشور جهان برگزار میشود و سالانه چیزی حدود یک و نیم میلیون نفر در آن شرکت میکنند.

در زبان فارسی صد ها بیت و مصرع در باره مشت و مشت گره کرده وجود دارد: <به سیلی و مشتش همی کوفتند.> البته، در فرهنگ های دیگر، مفاهیم مشت و مشت گره کرده همیشه با فارسی مطابقت ندارد. مثلآ اوایل قرن بیستم کمونیست ها در تجمعات حزبی خیابانی از مشت های بر افراشته استفاده میکردند تا بدین ترتیب عزم واراده و اتحاد و اتفاق خود را اعلام کرده باشند. در حال حاضر، در فرهنگ مغرب زمین دست مشت کرده یا دستی با انگشتان جمع شده دلالت دارد بر عدم تمایل صاحب دست به برقراری روابط دوستانه با طرف مقابل. حال اگر دو تن با افکاری متضاد باهم مصالحه کنند، جملهء زیر در بارهء آنان صدق میکند:
The outstretched hand met the clenched fist.
در جمله زیر کلمات « unclench fist» استعاره است و مفهوم آن داشتن آمادگی برای مصالحه است.

در این جمله یک جا «cling» بکار رفته و در جای دیگر «unclench» که هردو از مشتقات یک کلمه اند.

در تاریخ مترجمان کم معلومات یا افرادی که تسلط بزبان خارجی را امری پیش پا افتاده تلقی کرده اند بکرات موجب بروز بلایا و مصائب و جنگها و کشتار های بسیار شده اند

کلمه ای ادا میکند که بشرح زیر است:
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
طبق قانون اساسی امریکا «قاضی القضات» مجری مراسم سوگند است. او که «روبرتس» نام دارد در مراسم سوگند رئیس جمهوری جدید امریکا خواست «هنر نمایی» کند و متن سوگند را از بر بیان نماید و «اوباما» بعد از او تکرار کند، اما از بد حادثه کلمهء « faithfully» را جابجا کرد و «اوباما» که لابد ساعتها متن سوگند را حفظ کرده بود، از این جابجای یکه خورد و مکث کوتاهی کرد و ضمن آن لبخندی استهزا آمیر بر لب آورد، ولی همچنان کلمهء مذکور را در جای صحیح خود بکار نمود. البته برای پیشگیری از هرگونه سوء استفادهء آتی، قاضی مربوطه یکبار دیگر مراسم را برای خالی نبودن عریضه تکرار کرد.
نکته: هر کس ابعاد وسیع و گستردهء یک زبان خارجی را دست کم بگیرد خود را سبک کرده است و بس. هرکس خیال کند که بانگاه کردن به عکس یا فیلمی بدون تسلط به زیر و بم های زبان فیلم و زمینهء وسیع فرهنگی آن توانسته است مطلب را درست بفهمد تنها جهالت خود را به اثبات رسانده است، چون در این میان هزار نکتهء باریکتر زمو اینجاست! دیگر اینکه «تپق زدن» در اصل گیر کردن لبهء جلویی سم دست اسب بزمین و معنی دیگر آن دچار «لکنت زبان شدن» است!
